Catalytic granular coconut shell based activated carbon (Made in Germany). Our Carbon is a high activity granular activated carbon manufactured by steam activation of select coconut shell charcoal. The catalytic activity of this activated carbon makes it highly effective for the removal of chloramines and hydrogen sulfide from potable water. Its large micropore volume makes it particularly well suited for the removal of low molecular weight organic compounds and their chlorinated by-products such as chloroform and other trihalomethanes (THMs). An important feature of this material is its superior mechanical hardness and the extensive dedusting during its manufacture ensures an exceptionally clean activated carbon product. KDF85 [Kinetic Degradation Fluxion], Removes or reduces iron and hydrogen sulfide from municipal or other water supplies. Also controls scale, bacteria and algae. KDF 85 Process Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. All KDF Process Media forms are effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi and scale, making them ideal for use in GAC beds, ion exchange resins, carbon block filters and inline carbon filters. Wherever our Media are used, they can eliminate the need for costly, and sometimes harmful, chemical treatments.
GAC Features and Benefits:
• Catalytic activity
• Large and extensive internal pore structure
• Optimized density
• Maximum hardness
• Low dust and turbidity
• Excellent adsorption capacity
• High volume activity
• Rapid dechlorination
• Low filtered water turbidity
KDF85: Do KDF Process Media offer any other advantages?
Yes – All KDF Process Media are guaranteed for product purity. A certified analytical sheet accompanies each manufacturing run. Patented KDF Process Media are 100% recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Our Medium is classified as a “pesticidal device” by the US Environmental Protection Agency so no pesticidal registration is required. Our Media also meet EPA and Food and Drug Administration standards for maximum limits of zinc and copper in potable water.
Benefits of KDF Process Media:
• Significantly extend the life of granular activated carbon
• Are recyclable
• Effectively remove chlorine and heavy metals and control microorganisms
• Outperform silver-impregnated carbons
• Require no EPA registration, thus less red tape

They are generally used in place of, or in conjunction with, granular activated carbon filters, even carbon block or inline filters. KDF water filter media extend the life of granular activated carbon [GAC] while protecting the carbon bed against fouling by bacterial growth. KDF Media are also used to replace silver-impregnated systems. Silver is toxic, KDF Process Media are not. Silver must be registered with the EPA as a toxic pesticide, KDF Process Media do not. By the way, silver is more expensive than KDF Process Media. We can explain redox [oxidation reduction process] like this: KDF Fluid Treatment’s unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Similarly, some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to plate out onto the medium’s surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply.
